Use the brightness slider to adjust brightness. Personally I made brightness shortcuts for my both monitors. From the Apple Menu, choose System Preferences. Xrandr -output "$MON" -brightness "$CurrBright" # Set new brightnessĮcho $( xrandr -verbose -current | grep ^"$MON" -A5 | tail -n1 )Ĭhange MON="DP-1-1" to your monitor name, ie MON="eDP-1-1"Ĭhange STEP=5 to your step value, eg STEP=2 is less noticeableīrightness_ext + to increase brightness brightness_ext - to decrease, fairly simpleĪlso i suggest you to create shortcuts for those commands, as they are much more convenient to use. MathBright="$MathBright"000 # Pad with lots of zeros MONITORS=$(xrandr -listactivemonitors | tail -n +2 | awk '" # get list of screens, trim noise and remove first line (count) # set brightness level from user input & reset if no args provided
I use a slightly older 30-in cinema display, and if you get the USB unplugged, the slider does nothing. # brightness.sh - script to set multiple monitor brightness Some Apple displays that have a USB pigtail require that the USB be plugged into the computer (even if you dont use the USB hub in the display) because they talk to the display across USB to adjust the Brightness. ( I use it for 3 monitors + notebook screen at once ) #!/bin/bash I also updated the app description to make it clear that DDC/CI is not possible in the App Store version.Using xrandr and few lines of bash script, it is possible to control multiple/all monitors at once for convenience

In the last update (v1.1.2) I added a f.lux detection that, when f.lux is running, will revert Lunar Lite's Gamma changes and switch to the overlay method to avoid clashing. I can't say for sure if your problem is related to f.lux, there maybe another app on your system affecting the Gamma tables. In my case, when I quit Lunar Lite, the display was still dim because f.lux was persisting the Gamma changes.Īfter also quitting f.lux, the system reverted everything as expected. So if you want to change the real volume of the monitor on Mac, Lunar can do that. Because f.lux also uses Gamma for adjusting color temperature, both apps will adjust the Gamma tables at the same time which can lead to the last tables persisting in the running app. One thing I could reproduce was a clash between f.lux and Lunar Lite.

I used my M1 MacBook Pro, one LG 4K monitor connected using USB-C, one iPad connected using Sidecar, one LG TV connected using both Airplay and HDMI (not at the same time). I did try to reproduce the issue but couldn't. Only DDC can have that effect because the brightness is persisted in the monitor controller memory. Sometimes, if a display has a display connection (like Mini DisplayPort) and also a USB connection to act as a hub or something else, then you need a USB cable connected as well for this to work.
This is enforced by the macOS system, and even if I wanted to deliberately do it, I wouldn't be able to set the monitor to completely dark after the app is quit. For some, you can go to System Preferences, Displays, and you can control the brightness there. What I was trying to explain is that macOS removes any Gamma table adjustment as soon as you quit the app. Rating has been adjusted accordingly (no change). It would be nice if the developer could at least try to reproduce the issue, maybe ask the user to help with debugging and find out the root cause (either within the app or otherwise), rather than assuming the user was using a different app or running a beta version OS. I didn't expect the app will work after it exits, but I do expect that it doesn't turn the display to blank on exit. I only had one brightness adjustment app installed on this computer (this app).

Thanks for the response! While someone coming from the website might incorrectly assume this app uses DDC/CI and your app description doesn't say it is software dimming, this is not the main reason I wrote this review. You will see the macOS display control on the screen. Of course, most Apple keyboards have brightness-adjustment keys. To change the brightness for other displays, simply click the display so that it’s the active one and use the usual brightness keys. If you select Default for display, then the Mac uses the highest resolution possible. The app doesn't actually change the monitor's brightness using DDC/CI, it uses some sort of software overlay instead. To use the brightness keys, make sure the external display is the active one and then tap the brightness keys to increase or decrease the brightness. I had to disconnect, power cycle my monitor to be able to see anything again.Ģ.
If you are connecting any external monitor to your laptop then.

The monitor will go completely dark after exiting this app. You can do the same brightness level adjustment using the Windows Display settings also.
